Swing on a Sunday to the best jazz in town

Jazz singer Helen Keating makes a welcome return to the Queen’s Theatre Foyer stage with a breathtaking night of melody on Sunday 17 August at 7.30pm.

End your weekend on a high note by relaxing with Helen as she belts out songs by all the greats – Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Dizzy Gillespie, Johnny Mercer, Fats Waller and many more. Songs and standards include Jumpin’ at the Woodside, Groovin’ High and St Thomas.

Helen’s special combo features Alan Berry on piano, Murray Salmon on double bass, Johnny Withers on drums, Rex Odell on trombone and Phil Snack on sax/flute/clarinet.

The sultry singer, who hails from Upminster, draws from decades of varied showbiz experience, having performed at Hornchurch Jazz Club, The 606, Spice of Life and various jazz festivals up and down the country. She has worked with the likes of Dick Emery and Norman Wisdom and even landed roles on TV shows such as The Sweeney, Minder, London’s Burning and EastEnders.

Helen Keating performs at the Queen’s Theatre on Sunday 17 August at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £8.50. To book, call the Box Office on 01708 443333. For further information about

Comedy Club at the Queen’s Theatre

A host of top comedians will tickle your fancy at the Queen’s Theatre’s Comedy Club in the Foyer on Thursday 21 August at 8.30pm.

Jarred Christmas, Ninia Benjamin and Seann Walsh promise to fill the evening with first-rate stand-up and barrels of laughs.

Wild-haired Jarred Christmas has a vivid imagination and draws audiences into his surreal world with a winning mix of killer gags, compelling story-telling and high-energy improvisation. He has played major comedy venues such as The Comedy Store, Komedia and Jongleurs and radio appearances include BBC Scotland, BBC’s 6 Music and LBC.

TV star Ninia Benjamin is best-known for her bolshy role on the hugely popular award-winning BBC show 3 Non-Blondes, which has been televised around the world. In a time where comediennes are few and far between, cheeky Ninia takes on the men at their own game with her explosive, straight-talking delivery. She has performed at London’s major comedy clubs and other TV appearances include Liquid News, RISE and BBC3 drama Spinechillers.

Young Brighton comedian Seann Walsh has been performing stand-up for nearly two years and has appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe and on Channel 4’s Comedy Showcase.

And there are plenty more laughs in store throughout the Autumn Season, with Comedy Club in the Foyer nights on 25 September, 30 October and 27 November. And by becoming a member of the Comedy Club, you can see all four shows for just £32, so book early or you’ll miss out!

“Jarred is human Red Bull – you will laugh and laugh and then you won’t believe he’s been on for 20 minutes.” Time Out

“Bursting onto the stage in an explosion of energy, bombastic Benjamin certainly makes an attention-grabbing entrance.” Chortle

Comedy Club in the Foyer takes place at the Queen’s Theatre, Billet Lane, Hornchurch, on Thursday 21 August at 8.30pm. The bar is open from 6pm. Tickets cost £10 and concessions are £9.50. To book, call the Box Office on 01708 443333. For further information, visit www.queens-theatre.co.uk/comedy
